Growing Families in Los Gatos Use Murphy Beds to Create Transitional Nursery Rooms

Posted by Larry Fox on Feb 20, 2017 8:18:01 AM

If you’re raising a family anywhere in the Bay Area, you can’t get a more picture-perfect neighborhood than Los Gatos. Old-growth trees flanking unique homes and the stunning Los Gatos Creek Trail make for a beautiful place for kids to ride bikes or draw with chalk in the driveway. 10 square miles of residential perfection sandwiched between Saratoga and Sierra Azul couldn’t be more quaint.

Cabinetry Finishes Inspired By the Historic Style Of Tri-Valley Wine Country

Posted by Larry Fox on Feb 10, 2017 7:54:54 AM

Tri-Valley residents understand what many tourists seem to miss: this is some of the best wine country in Northern California. Sonoma and Napa have had their day, and slowly we’re starting to acknowledge the charm and viniculture of the region just a little further south. Places like Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, and Danville are regionally known for their local vino, which has been developing since the 19th century. This is a place of deep historical roots, small town quaintness, and a unique mix of winery-style architecture.

Saving in the South Bay House Market: Upgrade Your Closet Instead of Buying New

Posted by Larry Fox on Feb 8, 2017 8:03:01 AM

South Bay is, undeniably, tech city. Potential employees for the world’s biggest tech giants flock to Silicon Valley every single year—which is great for venture capital, but not so great for house prices. Whether you’ve migrated from a room share in West SJ to a family-friendly home in Campbell or are seeking a mid-range townhome in Luna Park, your price per square foot will be extreme. If you own real estate in South Bay, you know the struggle of trying to make even a generous tech salary cover the cost of living in this prime location.

Make Your Own Custom LaFayette Theatre at Home (Though It Won't Be as Historic as the Park)

Posted by Larry Fox on Feb 6, 2017 9:02:14 AM

I’ll never forget rushing to the Park Theater in LaFayette to see “Cinema Paradiso” on its last weekend performance. The Streamline Moderne mainstay of downtown LaFayette was one of my favorite single-screen theaters in the state. Watching it lie vacant for more than a decade while investors fought over its future use—only to have all plans scrapped in the end—has been heartbreaking. And I don’t even live in the city.

With Interest Rates Soaring, Remodeling Your Home Office In Los Altos Hills May Be Better Than Moving

Posted by Larry Fox on Feb 3, 2017 9:20:16 AM

As the 8th most expensive zip code in the United States, Los Altos Hills (94022, to be exact), is definitely not a cheap place to live. You get a lot of bang for your buck here, however, with guaranteed lot sizes, beautiful residential areas with restricted zoning (no apartments or commercial buildings here), and a fantastic community of adults to socialize with at the farmers’ market on Thursdays. It’s a quiet, ranch-reminiscent town that’s unfortunately about to get even more pricey.

By the end of 2017, the Fed expects yet another ¾ point increase in interest rates—meaning your LAH mortgage has the potential to rise more than $500 per month. If you’re lucky enough to live in this coveted zip code, that number may not concern you. However, it definitely serves as that market’s warning to stay put. Now is definitely not the time to buy new.

Celebrate Bay Area House Values Hitting a Record High with a Closet Makeover

Posted by Larry Fox on Jan 30, 2017 8:15:29 AM

If Chicagoans discuss the Cubs and Portlanders chat about the rain, Bay Area residents belabor house prices. It’s always on our minds—rising mortgages, increased rent prices, and an ever-growing influx of new neighbors make housing our number one concern. Some even joke that newcomers to the Bay should stay for a couple of years and then move along to make space for others to cycle through. We know house prices are high, and growing steadily higher.

As 2016 drew to a close, single-family residences in the Bay saw an all-time high in price (according to the Case-Shiller Index). What’s more interesting, in my opinion, is that homes in the bottom third of the market increased the most, surpassing the rest to reach a level almost 5 times what it was in the late 80s. Homeowners, this means that your “lower-end” property is becoming more valuable than ever. If you’re looking to sell and need a way to increase your profit—or if you’re just looking for a way to increase your home value without the pressure of selling—you may want to consider going in for a closet makeover.

How to Recreate Palo Alto’s Rinconada Library in Your Own Master Bedroom

Posted by Larry Fox on Jan 26, 2017 10:33:30 AM

I recently got into a somewhat heated debate with a colleague about a very pressing current issue—e-readers versus paperbacks. While my opponent made some good points about accessibility, I couldn’t concede. You just can’t beat the feel of crisp pages and the smell of fresh ink—and those are things that your tablet just can’t provide (yet).

One of my main selling points in the support of real books was, of course, our client base. Ever since the new Rinconada library renovations completed, many people have walked through our Campbell showroom looking for a very specific bookshelf configuration. They’re seeking an at-home, master-bedroom library—and as a proponent of real books, I am only too happy to oblige. Use custom bookshelves, cabinets, and drawers, to your advantage to create an ultra-functional library design for use in Palo Alto (or anywhere else we book lovers congregate).

Custom Cabinet & Closet Manufacturing in Silicon Valley

Posted by Tracey Lee Davis on Jan 23, 2017 2:34:28 PM

In 2015, Patrick Layne, Valet’s Vice President & General Manager, started on a quest to update two major pieces of equipment in the Valet production facility: our edgebander and our panel saw. Patrick traveled all over the country (and even to Canada) and met with many machinery vendors and end-users (other manufacturing companies) in search of the perfect machines. After many long flights and meals on airplanes, all of his hard work and research paid off. Over the summer of 2016, we successfully installed a new Holzma HPP 300 panel saw and a Holzher Accura 1554 edgebander in our shop.
