East Bay Residents Use Custom Garage Cabinets to Store Seasonal Tahoe Ski Gear

Posted by Larry Fox on Mar 9, 2017 8:07:21 AM

One of the best things about living in the East Bay is the relative ease of traveling to Tahoe for skiing on the weekends. Yes, you have to put on chains, deal with traffic slowdowns, and find your own parking—but when you can access a full day of fresh powder within just a few hours, I honestly don’t know why you wouldn’t pack up your boots and head north.

East Bay residents are heading out in droves to Tahoe for skiing/boarding this time of year. Snow is still abundant, and ski gear lives perpetually strapped to the rooftops of cars all over the area. However, when the cold finally breaks at the end of yet another ski season, there's a better way to store your gear: custom garage cabinetry.

Make a Big City Statement in the Suburbs With Your Lafayette Garage Remodel

Posted by Larry Fox on Mar 1, 2017 12:08:24 PM

I’m just going to come right out and say it: I love Oakland. Whenever I visit SF’s unique (and somewhat cooler) older brother, it inspires me to use more color in my everyday life. To be more loud with what I’m passionate about. And, above all else, to make a statement where a statement is necessary (because around Oakland, it’s always necessary). Living in the suburbs, it can be really tough to give up the culture and vibrancy of the bigger city when you go back home—but there are still things you can do in your own place to make Lafayette feel a little less like a suburb.

How Much Will Your New Menlo Park Garage Remodel Cost?

Posted by Larry Fox on Dec 29, 2016 4:41:30 PM

Rainy season has officially come to the Bay Area. Powerful storms passing through the area have downed trees, caused power outages, whipped up strong winds, and pelted us with rain—and lots of it. Menlo Park alone has already received significant precipitation this year, which makes roads hazardous and can create nightmare-worthy driving.

Though you may have high hopes of getting yourself organized before the new year hits, it might be a good idea to hold off on any big projects that require the outdoors (unless you’re looking to fight our unpredictable weather). King tides are coming, and even though Menlo Park is protected by the Bay, we’re still in for quite a bit of flooding potential. Tackle your attic first, for instance, before you start moving your life’s collection of file folders and golf clubs out of the garage and into the path of the storm.

Converting a San Jose Garage Back into a Garage With the Help of Custom Cabinetry

Posted by Larry Fox on Nov 10, 2016 11:39:20 AM

I probably don’t need to tell you that San Jose is a very popular place to live, but you might be surprised to learn it’s the largest city in the Bay Area by population. While it started out as a small farming community, it overtook San Francisco as the place to live in the Bay Area in the 1990s and is often called the Capital of Silicon Valley.

The more popular a place becomes, of course, the more people—and less space—there is. In response, people devise creative solutions for creating extra room—like converting a garage into a guest bedroom,
TV room, or home office. But what happens when all you really want is an actual garage?

Custom Garage Storage Solutions Embrace Bicycle Boulevard Plans in Palo Alto

Freeing up space for bikes and recreation with custom garage storage solutions turns what was previously a concrete slab and a parking space into your new favorite room.

Palo Alto has amazing natural beauty, a booming economy, and one of the most educated populations in America. There is also a fair amount of traffic. The situation has gotten so severe that Palo Alto's CIO Jonathan Reichental is even pushing for Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology that helps drivers minimize parking time and optimize traffic flow by collecting data on local traffic patterns. This information, along with that already being collected by internet-enabled cars, can create a new data-based urban model.

But why not try the old-fashioned way to “go green” and beat traffic by hopping on your bike? In addition to IoT tech, Palo Alto is addressing the traffic problem by aggressively funding new bike paths that will offer an alternative to many popular commuter routes. As residents start to see a comprehensive network of new bike routes throughout Palo Alto, they can increasingly opt to skip the long commute for the appealing combination of a pleasant ride and a morning workout. Redesigning your garage with custom bike racks and retractable tool chests can facilitate biking. You’ll feel good about lowering your carbon footprint and skipping the gridlock when you're easily able to opt for biking. Once you free up space with an effective storage system, a beautiful garage becomes so much more than just a place to park.

The Designer's Custom Garage

Posted by Tracey Lee Davis on Oct 14, 2015 8:33:40 AM

Mark Olson is one of the Senior Designers at Valet Custom Cabinets & Closets. Mark has been with Valet since March 1999 and, along with experience that he gained prior to coming on board with us, has over 30 years experience in the home improvement industry. Over the years, he has “really had fun designing cabinetry for people with all sorts of garages filled with junk.” When Mark discovered a slow leak in his water heater, he finally had the chance to design his own custom garage! “My kitchen was the next home remodeling project my wife and I had in mind,” Mark said. “However, since the water heater needed replacing and the platform and sheetrock re-done, one thing led to another.”

So what does it look like when a designer gets to create his own garage? Let’s take a look!

Small Cars Surge in Popularity: I'm on My Fifth Mitata!

Posted by Sarah Whitely on Feb 19, 2012 2:25:00 PM

I’m on my fifth Miata now, because it just fits me like a glove and I love its look, but even for the general population, it looks like small cars are back in vogue as fuel economy standards will be getting significantly stricter in the near future.

Besides liking apple pie, Americans like their cars with power and style, so automakers are polishing up what’s under the hood as well as the outside to meet both fuel economy and our love of individuality on the road.

So I thought that this special Cars section of the New York Times was interesting enough to share with you, with six articles covering everything from used cars to hot rods, not only because we love to read about new automobile technology, but the slide show rocks!

And we here at Valet Custom Cabinets & Closets have an interest too, as we feel our garage storage and floor solutions  offer the best value and functionality available; did you know that the attractive and durable Granitex Epoxy flooring is car AND pet resistant? How many times have you put your pet in the garage only to discover that there’s been a little accident? Ugh! With cement, what happens there stays there, so check it out!

And please be sure to visit one of our Showrooms in Campbell and Danville to see for yourself the storage and space saving ideas that can turn a wall into a bed, office, media center, sewing or hobby center…you simply won’t believe your eyes!

And if you like these stories, please be sure to “Like” us on Facebook so we know we are entertaining you as well as sharing Valet Custom Cabinets & Closet’s storage solutions.

How to Give Your Garage a Makeover

Posted by Sarah Whitely on Jun 1, 2011 2:46:00 PM

Your garage can do so much more than serve as a place to park your car and store all your junk. A garage organizing system can transform your garage into a storage space for tools and seasonal necessities, or and a high-tech hangout with custom media centers. The sky’s the limit, whether you’ve envisioned a man cave, an auto shop, a wine cellar, or recreation room.
