Custom Closet Storage Systems Offer a Modern Solution to the Challenges of a Sunnyvale Eichler

A couple of weeks ago, I was having dinner with some friends when the topic of Eichler homes came up. These are beautiful houses, with a Frank Lloyd Wright-influenced High Modern feel, but they’re still very livable and quintessentially Californian. Sunnyvale alone has several neighborhoods made up of almost nothing but Eichlers—one of the largest concentrations in both California and the country. And people love them. There are sites dedicated to finding Eichlers for sale or to showing off pictures of their unique and beautiful look.

Clothes Exceeding Your Closet Space? Install a Custom Wardrobe in Your San Jose Bedroom

Do you remember the song, “Do You Know The Way To San Jose”? I hum it nearly every time I’m in town. It needs a follow-up, though. Namely, what do you do once you reach San Jose? Where do you go? Where do you live? Because the housing market here is pretty tight. Homes have reached a record high of over $800,000 on average (which is actually lower than Santa Clara County, which has topped $1 million). Knowing the way to San Jose is only half the ballgame.

Creating a Custom Home Office When There's No Space in Your Mountain View Condo

Posted by Larry Fox on Aug 9, 2016 12:23:07 PM

Ah, to be young and live in Mountain View. Or to be in the prime of your career and live there—or to be retired there. Whatever your age, this Bay Area jewel is attracting lots of newcomers. It’s been fun to see the downtown area bloom over the last decade, and while there are plenty of great houses, I’ve found that the condo market is probably the hottest: condos sell within 15 days—and at 107% of list price. Those are unheard of numbers, and they’re driven by two groups: tech employees from Silicon Valley and retirees.

Two Twin Murphy Beds Allow Downsizing Palo Alto Grandparents to Host Overnight Guests

Posted by Larry Fox on Jun 23, 2016 5:00:35 PM

Palo Alto is one of those cities where it’s cold enough to enjoy the changing seasons – but never too cold. It’s warm enough for outdoor fun – but never too hot. It rarely rains. It doesn’t have the baking heat of the desert. In other words: I love it. Lots of people do. While the city draws many tech-sector employees, it’s not just for savvy 30-somethings. With a full 17% of residents age 65 and older, Palo Alto has become a retirement magnet. It’s the perfect location, especially if you already have kids, or grandkids, in the area.

The Bay Area is a great place to retire. People who’ve made the jump tell us of the great times they have hiking, visiting wine country, and getting out of the city to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. It’s no less an exciting life, but it is a simpler one. Part of that simplicity may come from getting rid of unnecessary clutter and moving to a smaller house, apartment, or condo.

San Francisco is one of America’s great cities, and it’s the heart of the tech industry. What it isn’t, always, is the easiest place to commute to. The difficult (some use stronger language) commute is why so many people who work here own a studio condo or loft which they stay in for the week, then go home to Mountain View, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, south San Jose or other Bay Area cities like Los Gatos on the weekends.

We’ve been working in and around Berkeley for a long time, and we know it’s a place people want to live. But because so many people want to live here, the city has been forced to tighten up its zoning laws. As a result, we’re seeing more and more accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, that are able to serve many functions. These small spaces can transition over the years, changing from a home office, to a guest room, to a storage area and more. Here at Valet Custom Cabinets & Closets, we often see ADUs being used for aging relatives who are looking to stay close to family.
